Temps cracked 50 degrees for many locations yesterday, but here we are, getting ready to track some snow and ice across the area. Admittedly, the atmosphere is boderline to support of an all snow event, so for many of us, sleet and rain will be in the mix. The farther north you go, the more the snow is likely.
Precip breaks out across the area today between 3-5pm, allowing for a good chunk of the day to be dry as highs head for the mid 40s. As precipitation starts, temps cool and some snow and sleet will break out across the Worcester Hills and across northern Mass, north of Route 2. It’ll be mostly rain near and south of the Pike late day and overnight tonight. Across the MA/NH expect slick conditions as sleet and snow come down at a good clip this evening.
By tomorrow morning, slick conditions continue across northern Mass, and then as the day wears on, rain changes back to snow showers across MetroWest and even in and around Boston. It’ll be tomorrow, when Boston has the best chance for a coating to an inch of snow.
Expect totals of 3-6″ of snow across northern Mass with the highest chance for that 6″, in NH. The snow will be tough to move, as sleet and some rain mix in, allowing for a lot of weight (water content) to what’s on the ground.
Winds turn to the northeast tonight and tomorrow morning. While not overly strong, 20-30mph gusts, an onshore wind with a tide astronomically on the higher side, will produce minor coastal flooding for parts of eastern Mass mid to late morning.
The weekend looks dry during the daylight hours, however, by Sunday night we track the next storm. Sunday night into Monday morning looks mostly like rain around 495, east toward the coast. The best chance for significant snow will be across Ski Country with this one. In fact, the pattern looks good for Ski Country the next couple weeks as many resorts will pick up over 2 feet of snow in the next 15 days as an active pattern continues.
