I spent quite a bit of time yesterday talking (altho not enough blogging) about all the awesome things in the month of June…..recapping….immense amounts of daylight, picking strawberries, the start of my favorite season–summer! Today was another example of why June rocks—-the high sun angle! The  sun appears higher in the sky and the reason being, the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun and this means the sun has some real firepower this time of year (sunburns–boo) and can chew up a deck of low clouds with ease.

For many of us that happened today. We all started with an overcast sky (even a little bit of mist) but as the morning rolled on, the sun’s energy was able to more easily pass through those clouds, heat up the ground and help to chew up/evaporate that deck of low clouds setting us up for a fantastic afternoon! Locations right along the coast had some sun for a few hours early this afternoon but being so close to the chilly ocean it was a tougher task–even for the mighty June sun–to completely scour out the clouds. When this type of pattern happens in any other season, we are left with a mostly cloudy day.

Tomorrow we will have another batch of clouds but the sun won’t be able to help out as much. A cool front will be passing through New England, dragging those clouds with it. We are likely to see a few isolated showers tomorrow morning and into the early afternoon but drier air will take hold by late day as the front moves away. No washout but if you have outdoor plans tomorrow morning-early afternoon have the rain gear on stand-by.

The weekend is 50/50 with Saturday being the sunny day. It looks like a fantastic summer-like day with temps near 80 (near 70 at the beaches). Get after it! Sunday is a not-so-fun day with an approaching storm. I think it is dry for a few hours Sunday Morning but rain arrives midday & off/on through the afternoon (and continuing overnight) with beneficial rains…most towns picking up between .50-1.00″ of rain by Monday morning.
