Closing the books on November in just a few hours, a November that will go into the books as colder than normal (by about a degree). This is our coldest November since 2014. Despite the chilly November, autumn–meteorologically speaking (Sep 1st through Nov 30th)–wraps up as a top 5 warmest autumns on record for Boston. OK….we’re on to December!

The first few hours of December will offer clouds and showers from that cold front, which will march across New England overnight. Despite the fact that a cold front is producing the clouds & showers, only raindrops overnight–no ice or snow–as temps stay safely above 40 throughout the night. As for the rain itself, it is a narrow band of rain that will keep on a moving and be gone by 7am Friday. Metro Boston can expect the rain between 3-5am:

A few stragglers may linger on the South Shore/Cape until 8am but for the most part, the Friday morning commute is dry. Sun and clouds for much of the day and even some leftover mild air as temps reach 50 tomorrow afternoon. A healthy breeze may add a chill to the air at times. The weekend looks great for putting up Holiday Lights, going after the Christmas tree or even some yardwork (raking leaves-cleaning gutters) as it will be dry both days as well as very little (if any) wind.

Looking ahead, still seasonably mild weather on the table for the beginning-middle of next week but the jet stream is about to snap in about 7-8 days (the Holidays can be stressful) and it will snap into a position that will release the arctic hounds to the United States..

It does appear this December will be colder than the previous two Decembers were and that likely means more snow than the previous two years. Remember, it’s a La Nina winter–they get off to a fast start then usually melt away by March!
