Liked yesterday? Good, then you’ll enjoy today as not much has changed. That means we start off cool and comfortable early this morning and finish warm with mostly sunny skies. Temps this afternoon range from near 80 at the coast thanks to sea breezes, to near 90 inland.
Mainly clear skies prevail through the evening before clouds increase late overnight tonight as more moisture and humidity works back in. That increased moisture interacts with a disturbance working in from our west tomorrow, allowing for scattered showers and storms to form. With the atmosphere loaded with moisture, the main threat will be locally heavy rain/downpours. While a good soaking would be much appreciated on these parched grounds, not all towns will see one as summer time showers and storms tend to be feast or famine, leaving some folks in the dust. Towns that do get hit, can pick up a quick 1″ or so. The timing of the best chance of these showers/storms will be mid morning/early afternoon.
This disturbance slides east by Thursday, allowing for both heat and humidity to be the main theme of the day as highs topple 90 degrees and dewpoints are a swampy 70+. That Florida-ish feel to the air extends into the weekend with both the heat and humidity in the forecast. Friday-Monday does bring the risk of some storms. They’ll tend to be more isolated and in the afternoon/early evening Friday and Saturday and could be more widespread Sunday PM into Monday if we can line up a front and a disturbance or two across southern New England. The atmosphere will be loaded with moisture (lots of water vapor) so any shower or storm that forms this weekend or early next week will be capable of locally heavy rain.
The chart below shows pwats (precipitable water) this weekend. The reds and purples show values near 2-2.5 which is very high and will allow any storm to produce heavy rain when they form.
