Alas, we say goodbye to the 10th month of 2016.  It feels like time is going by so quickly, doesn’t it?  Well, the good news is that we’re finishing up October with “above average” rainfall for the month.  Boston finished with 5.46″ of rain, which is 1.52″ above average FOR OCTOBER.  The bad news is, we’re still almost 9″ below average for the entire year.  We need some more rain (or snow – because it’s all “precipitation”) – but when will we get some?

By the way, when I ask “when will we get some?” I’m really talking about the snow… because this is what keeps me up at night.  This is the time of year that my anxiety builds for that first big storm!  I agree with Chief meteorologist Jeremy Reiner’s forecast; winter will probably start earlier this year than in the last couple of years.  If you recall, during the “snow blitz” winter just two years ago, we didn’t get our first storm until the end of January.  Plus, remember last year?  It was 69° on Christmas Eve and we were still waiting for the first measurable snowfall!  Probably not this year… but we continue to wait for now.

I digress.  Tomorrow is the first day of November, and third and final month of “meteorological fall.”  The first day of November will be a quintessential fall day; crisp, cool and bright!  But be prepared for the chill in store to start the day.  Getting the kiddos out to the bus-stop tomorrow, they will need the heavy coat.  Tuesday’s temps will start in the upper 20s for the coolest spots and closer to the upper 30s in Boston.  Highs tomorrow afternoon will end up in the low to mid 50s.  Still a touch “below average” (normal high for this time of year is 57°, according to 30-year climatological averages), but close enough.  :c)

If you loved the mild temps of yesterday (mid 60s to near 70), you’ll love Wednesday and Thursday of this week!  The ups and downs of temps continue with another “boost” on the way, though brief.  Much like our highs yesterday (Sunday), highs on Wed-Thur will be in the mid to upper 60s, and maybe even 70° in a few of spots.  If you’re a fan, enjoy!  If you’re not a fan, don’t worry… we’re back to temps in the 40s by the weekend!

Also, as I mentioned before:  Our next best chance for any of that much-needed rainfall doesn’t arrive until late Thursday, coming along a cold front.  Maybe a half-inch of rain on the way… We’ll take all we can get.

Happy Halloween!  Now, on to the Holiday Season!  – Breezy
