High heat dominated much of southern New England yesterday with temps running into the low to mid 90s for highs. While not all locations saw rain, a few pop-up showers and storms did drop 0.25-0.50″ for some. Those showers and storms were out ahead of a cold front, one that moved through overnight, leaving somewhat more refreshing air in place this morning.
The humidity runs a bit lower today and while inland temps take another run at 90, it’ll be much cooler at the coast, where temps run a couple degrees either side of 80 thanks to a refreshing ocean breeze. Solid beach day for sure.
Winds kick back to the south to southwest by tomorrow, and that send the high heat out way. The record high of 96 in Boston will likely fall as temps run into the upper 90s to near 100 for many away from Southeast Mass. Along the South Coast, temps max out below 90 as much of the Cape stays in the 80s.
A heat advisory is up for tomorrow and for Friday. Temps Friday run a couple degrees lower, but the humidity is going to be higher, allowing for the heat index to top 100 again. We’ll track some scattered storms Friday afternoon and with the atmosphere loaded with moisture, some of those showers and storms will drop drenching rains. It’s the summer type hit of miss, so some towns pick up a quick 1-2″, while others get little drought relief.
A few isolated to scattered showers and storms sprout up with the daytime heating and soupy (very humid) air in place over the weekend, but no day is a wash out. It’ll remain hot, near 90.
High heat and humidity start early next week, but we’ll likely see some nice relief to that mid to late week.
