Searing burgers and steaks on the grill over the long weekend and now some searing heat for us on this sunny July day. While much of the summer has featured low humidity days, comfy overnight  and a bit of a breeze, today will be one of the hottest days so far this summer. In fact, away from the coastline, mid 90s this afternoon will make it the hottest day of the summer. Heading to the beach or hanging pool side?… No thunderstorm threat today as highs range from the mid to upper 80s at the coast to mid 90s inland. While it’s a bit muggy out, the humidity is not overly oppressive today as dew points this afternoon tend to favor the mid to upper 50s inland and low to mid 60s at the coast.   There’s also an air quality alert for high levels of ground ozone for eastern and southeastern Mass from 11am-11pm.

The pattern after today does offer a few chances for showers and storms. The first chance is tomorrow afternoon with some scattered showers and storms tomorrow afternoon.  They’ll be most widespread northwest of Boston and isolated south. Highs tomorrow range from near 80 at the coast to near 90 inland. In classic summer-like fashion, the storms are hit or miss, so some towns pick up beneficial rains while others miss out of the action.  Since the atmosphere will have quite a bit moisture with it, locally heavy rains and gusty winds are possible with a few of these storms.

Not only do we have a chance for occasionally showers and storms Friday and Saturday, we’ll also have a cooler pattern as onshore winds prevail, providing us with more 70s to 80 degree temps. Sunday, showers are more of the isolated  variety as to the more widespread action we see Saturday, so we’ll catch so dry times in there this weekend too. The timing is not great, but we do need some rain.

Stay cool today!
