Did anyone else enjoy the thunderstorm that moved through last night?  Around 11pm, it POURED in Boston – with an impressive light show and loud boomers!  Those are the kinds of thunderstorms I like; the non-severe storms.  However, it can sometimes take us by surprise and leave us stranded for a while until it passes.  Always remember, “When thunder roars, go indoors!”  One of my favorite weather rhymes, because it is so easy (and important) to remember.

Last summer around this time, I put together a piece on lightning safety.  Lightning is impressive!  One bolt is 5-times hotter than the surface of the sun (around 50,000° Fahrenheit), and can travel around 10 miles on average.  That’s why it is some important to remember that little rhyme you just ready about (see above)…  There is actually a thing called a “bolt out of the blue,” in which a person was standing under clear, blue skies and still was struck by lightning.  If you can HEAR the thunder, you are in danger of being struck by lightning.  More lightning facts?  Men are much more likely to be struck by lightning than women (statistically speaking), and is the 2nd weather-related cause of death (flash-flooding is #1).  One of my Twitter followers sent me this graphic this morning that I just had to re-tweet.   While I’m not a fan of the “spell-check police” on social media, this just says it all:

Okay, enough on that – because we don’t have to worry about that for at least a couple of days.  Really, you want to know what the Father’s Day forecast is looking like.  How about we carbon-copy today’s fine forecast?!  Well, we may be able to do even better than that if you were hoping for warmer temperatures.  While the breeze out of the east was able to keep our coastal temps quite cool this afternoon, tomorrow’s breeze will be out of the south.  This will help to pump in some warmer air, and may even keep the sea breeze away from the eastern coastline!  I do think that SE Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the islands will likely feel the “chill” of wind off the water – but Boston may be able to make it to 80° for a high tomorrow!  Fantastic.  This weekend’s forecast brought to you by the letter “H.”  That stands for “high pressure,” “heat,” and “HAPPY!!!”

We’ll continue this dry pattern through tomorrow and Monday – which, by the way, is the Summer Solstice.  It isn’t until Tuesday that we have to worry about any showers or storms.  This morning I was calling for afternoon/evening storms on Tuesday, but tonight the forecast models are suggesting that our cold front makes it through the area much earlier on Tuesday… So, the jury is still out on the timing of this “wet weather.”  I will say that it looks to be scattered in nature, rather than anything widespread.  Stay tuned for more on this…

and have a very HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!
