It’s here, for sure! That winter chill that was missing last December, has certainly made an appearance this December and it looks like it’ll have some staying power. Of course, you need the cold to get the snow, and snow it will Sunday night into Monday morning.
Before we talk turkey regarding the Monday AM snow, let’s talk about the weekend first. With tons of sunshine today, there won’t be any travel troubles, but it’ll be a cold day with a chilly breeze at 10-20mph with highs hard pressed to pass the 30 degrees mark, so we’re a good 10 degrees below average for the date. Picking out the Christmas today? Have fun, just dress warm! The chill continues tonight with lows in the low to mid teens in the burbs to near 20 in Boston. We’ll rebound into the low to mid 30s tomorrow under increasing clouds. They’ll be little wind on Sunday too, so that’ll be nice.
The clouds that increase Sunday foreshadow the snow to come. A bit of light snow likely breaks out Sunday evening, after 8pm, and continues overnight. It’ll likely become steadier predawn, allowing for a messy Monday morning commute. While initially, many of us start as snow, an east to southeast wind will drag in milder air, changing snow to a wintry mix to rain from southeast to northwest during the morning. Near the coastal plain, snow flips to rain after an inch or 2″ early Monday morning, while the transition to an icy mix to rain is slower inland. Outside 495, it’s mostly snow, especially in southern New Hampshire and northern Worcester County. Rain/mix tapers off early in the afternoon, allowing for improving travel conditions for the evening commute. Drying too for the Pats game!

Temps are near seasonal levels Tuesday and Wednesday before crashing in the Arctic air Thursday and Friday. Highs on Friday may be hard pressed to get much past 20! Yikes. Any more snow chances? Yeh, it’s a close call Wednesday night with a wave of low pressure to our south that may deliver a bit of snow, we’ll watch that one. Also, sometime next weekend, the next messy mix may work in. Plenty of time to watch that one too.
Have a great weekend!
