Howard Shu, arguably America’s brightest badminton talent, was defeated by Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto on Friday morning in group play. At times, Shu hung there in with Sugiarto and had some longer rallies with the Indonesian ace. However, Sugiarto’s ability to rescue seemingly “lost” points was too much for Shu to overcome on a consistent basis. Suffering losses in a match sweep, 21-14 and 21-10, Shu will look for better results when he locks horns with Cuba’s up-and-comer, Osleni Guerrero on Saturday in another group play singles match.
