SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been found guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of his teenage girlfriend.
Prosecutors say Nickolas Lacrosse, of Springfield, stabbed 17-year-old high school senior Kathryn Mauke 32 times in her own home in February 2015 because he was angry she had broken up with him. A jury found Lacrosse guilty on Wednesday.
The Hamden County District Attorney says jurors deliberated Tuesday after hearing closing statements.
The now 23-year-old Lacrosse testified last week that he did not intend to kill Mauke, but went to her home to get “clarification” about their split.
His attorney said Lacrosse was “disassociated.” Two defense experts testified that Lacrosse didn’t have the ability to control his actions and is not criminally responsible for the killing.
