SALISBURY, MASS. (WHDH) - Police are looking for the person who set an illegal fur trap that seriously injured a cat in Salisbury.

Dave Michaud said his 2-year-old cat August likes being outside and may have gotten caught in the trap in the woods near their home on Lafayette Road. Back in late June, Michaud said the trap clamped into August’s side and his cat came back home dragging the metal trap with him.

“I knew it was a trap but I didn’t know anything about that kind of trap,” said Michaud. “I couldn’t figure out how to open it.”

Michaud rushed August to the veterinarian. While the trap did not hurt any organs, August has undergone several surgeries for infections, including one this week.

Police said the leg hold trap is illegal in Massachusetts.
