Ontario, California  (AP) — Firefighters in California continued to battle a recycling plant well into Friday night.

The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. local time Friday afternoon.

But flames and huge plumes of smoke were still billowing Friday night.

The fire is contained, but is expected to burn for some time because of the difficulty of extinguishing the large bundles of cardboard that fueled it.

The area is mostly industrial, however there are a few homes nearby and officials issued a smoke advisory.

The Ontario International Airport is also nearby but no flights were affected.
