LAWRENCE, MASS. (WHDH) - An intense fire destroyed a garage and damaged a house in Lawrence Wednesday afternoon.
The fire started at a detached garage behind a house on Prospect Street. Narline Marte was in the main house and said she smelled smoke. Minutes later, she saw the garage was engulfed in flames.
“It was huge, it was all red and bruning and you could see the garage falling apart,” said Marte. While the flames did not reach the main house, the house did sustain some damage.
The garage was down a long driveway, making it a challenge for firefighters to get hoses to the burning garage. The hot temperatures also made fighting the flames difficult; firefighters made sure to stay hydrated and worked in shifts.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
