The Hingham community honored an Iraq war veteran on Monday as he returned to his hometown.

Curtis Leonard got an escort home as friends and family greeted the 25-year-old.

"To welcome anyone of them home is a tribute and an honor," said Keith Jermyn, director of the Hingham Veterans Affairs program.

Leonard said it was good to be home.

Leonard’s father, Bill, said, "It’s hard not to shed a tear."

Others held flags and made signs to welcome the Curtis Leonard home.

Curtis’s mother planned to make her son macaroni and cheese for his first meal home.
