BRAINTREE, MASS. (WHDH) - The Braintree Police Chief has announced his resignation following an evidence investigation.

Investigators said nearly $500,000 was found missing from an evidence room, along with guns, drugs and personal property.

Chief Russel Jenkins was on the force for nearly 33 years and served as chief for the past four years.

In a resignation letter Thursday Jenkins said, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as Chief of the Braintree Police Department these past four years.”

Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan released a statement Thursday, accepting Jenkins’ resignation.
