NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 15-year-old boy will be charged in the killing of a Canada goose that was found dead near a bloodied rock at a Massachusetts park.

New Bedford police Lt. Amos Melo says the boy confessed to his parents, who then contacted police. The boy will appear in juvenile court on an animal cruelty charge.

The goose was found near the duck pond at Brooklawn Park on Sept. 1 with blood on its head. A 3-inch rock was found near the scene.

Melo says another case involving a Canada goose that was apparently shot to death with a pellet gun in the same area last weekend remains under investigation. The two cases don’t appear to be connected.
