LOWELL, MASS. (WHDH) - Loved ones attended a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening in memory of a mother killed after she was allegedly beaten outside a party over the weekend.

Prosecutors said Gloribel Orengo, 44, was involved in a fight outside of an apartment complex after being asked to leave a party. She was allegedly beaten and kicked before being struck with a bottle and then run over with a car, which took off from the scene. Orengo later died.

Amirilies Huertas-Perez, 23, was arraigned in Lowell District Court on Tuesday. Huertas-Perez, of Worcester, pleaded not guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police said they are still searching for other suspects.

Prosecutors said the car that fled the scene, which was reported stolen, later crashed into a house in Northborough. Everyone inside the car took off. Huertas-Perez was arrested at her mother’s house in Lowell. Her defense attorney James Krasnoo said Orengo was the aggressor in the fight.

Relatives of Orengo wiped away tears in court and some broke down sobbing outside. Orengo’s children said they hope everyone involed in their mother’s death is brought to justice.

“I’ll be more happy when they get the rest of the scumbags and the rest of the cowards that did this to my mother,” said Orengo’s son, Luis Anthony Barreto.
