New Balance speaks out after white supremacist website praises company

BOSTON (WHDH) - Boston-based New Balance has made an announcement after a white supremacist website known as Daily Stormer referred to the brand’s sneakers as “The Official shoes of white people.”

Fringe site Daily Stormer, which refers to itself as “America’s #1 Most Trusted Republican News Source,” posts explicitly degrading articles about women, minorities and Jewish people specifically.

New Balance posted a statement on Twitter denouncing “bigotry or hate in any form” and that they have employees of all “races, genders, cultures and sexual orientations.”

The company’s controversies follow a statement by New Balance Vice President of Public Affairs Matt LeBretton, who said last Wednesday that the company feels that Trump’s victory is a move in the right direction for the country.

LeBretton also said that the Obama administration had “turned a deaf ear” to New Balance.

The Internet was quick to react to the announcement on social media, showing customers burning their sneakers and tossing them in the trash.

The company later clarified they favored Trump’s trade policy with the Trans-Pacific Partnership and creating shoes in the United States.
