PLYMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) - When a memorable teacher couldn’t make it to homecoming because of illness, the school brought homecoming to him.

Early this year Jeff Petrie was diagnosed with lymphoma and has been too ill to return to the classroom.

The school decided homecoming wouldn’t be the same without him–so they brought homecoming to him.

“If my legacy ends tomorrow… today I know that these kids have put this forward and they’ll remember it for their lifetimes,” said Petrie

Many students wore lime green to support those battling cancer.

The students said they don’t want him to lose hope.
