OXFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - The State Police trooper who was injured during a shootout with the man suspected of killing Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarentino was released from the hospital on Thursday.

The trooper was treated at UMass Hospital-lakeside.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder when Jorge Zambrano opened fire on him and two other troopers inside an Oxford duplex where Zambrano was hiding.

The two other officers returned fire and killed Zambrano.

State Police said the trooper continues to recuperate and will eventually undergo a rehabilitation program.

The trooper attended a funeral service Friday for Tarentino.

His name is not being released.
