MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Outgoing Republican state Sen. William Doyle wants to make one thing clear when he’s asked about his decision not to continue to pursue a recount in his narrow election loss: Even at 90 he’s not retiring from politics.
Doyle, the longest serving member of the Vermont Senate, says he’s going to stay involved in politics and he’s going to continue to use the Statehouse as the backdrop for the political science courses he teaches at Vermont’s Johnson State College.
Last month, Doyle lost his bid to be elected to the state Senate for the 24th time, coming in fourth in a race for one of Washington County’s three seats in the 30-member state Senate. Even if he’s not retiring, Doyle’s legacy drew immediate praise from people across the state.
