Worcester Police responded to a domestic incident at a Grand Street apartment early Sunday morning.

A 23-year-old woman met with police when they arrived and informed them that her ex-boyfriend, 30 of Worcester, was verbally threatening her on the phone. The victim also informed police that she had an active restraining order against the man.

According to police, the man continually called the woman and threatened to do physical harm to her and her family. Police said he also warned her not to call police.

While police were on scene in the apartment lobby, the woman’s ex-boyfriend arrived. Police informed the man he was under arrest for violating a restraining order. The suspect attempted to pull away from the officer and reached for his pocket. The suspect then attempted to flee.

Another officer entered the lobby to assist. The suspect was tackled to the ground by the officers after he continued to resist arrest. During the struggle the officers realized the suspect had a steak knife. Officers instructed the man to drop the knife and stop resisting. The suspect then stabbed one of the officers in the face with the knife during the struggle.

Officers were eventually able to apprehend the suspect and take him into custody.

The officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated. He has been released and is recovering.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

The man is being charged with violation of a restraining order, trespassing, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder, mayhem and threatening to commit a crime.

The name of the suspect cannot be released at this time.
