NEWTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A construction worker was rushed to the hospital after his foot got caught in a cement mixer in Newton.

Firefighters said the 22-year-old slipped and his foot got caught in a working cement mixer at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. A coworker heard the man screaming and he ran over and unplugged the cement mixer before calling 911.

Firefighters and other rescue crews were left with a difficult rescue, as the worker’s ankle was wrapped around the blade. Hand tools were used to disassemble the entire unit to rescue him. The rescue took hours before the man was freed.

The man remains hospitalized but his condition has stabilized. Firefighters said they are investigating exactly how his leg got caught in the mixer.
