Sights on Sochi: The Kremlin

The Kremlin, the giant fortress in the heart of Moscow, evokes memories of the Cold War and thoughts of spy novels.

But it is much more: The seat of Russian government where President Vladimir Putin works and the home to some of the world’s most beautiful palaces, museums and cathedrals. At noon the national anthem rings out across Red Square.

The red walls of the Kremlin have stood on this hill in the center of Moscow for more than five centuries.
This is where the tsars were coronated, including Catherine the Great.

It really wasn’t that long ago that it was unheard of to find an American just strolling around here. Nowadays, it’s a bit more common.
