DEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - Police say a Dedham man has been charged with murdering his father.

Alex Anderson, 25, has been held without bail after being arraigned on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty.

Police visited the victim’s home shortly after 2 a.m. after receiving a phone call. That home’s resident, Paul Anderson, 59, was transported to Norwood Hospital with multiple traumatic injuries before being declared dead.

Officials say the suspect shared a home with his father.

Prosecutors say the suspect entered his father’s bedroom before 2 a.m. and had some sort of disagreement with his father. He then reportedly told police he stabbed his father in the cheek, attacked him with a hammer, threw him down the stairs, and called 9-1-1.

The murder is under investigation by Dedham Police, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police.
