The community in Goshen is honoring a local hero after he helped find a  missing 4-year-old last month.

Mason Neveu, 10, is the son of a firefighter, who was helping look for the little boy, but it was Mason who eventually found him in the woods.

He was honored with the "Young Hero Award" for helping out.

Mason was born with several birth defects and is deaf in one ear, but that didn’t stop him.

"He’s been through so much trauma with all of his surgeries and everything he goes through day-to-day, and he’s often underestimated. He’s an extremely intelligent- very very smart boy, and it was so exciting to let people see what he’s really capable of,"  said his mother, and Goshen Fire Captain Monica Neveu.

Officials say the 4-year-old had wandered about a half-mile from his home. They gave him a whistle in case he gets lost again.
