STERLING, MA (WHDH) — A corn maze honoring Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was unveiled in Sterling Tuesday morning.
Ortiz was joined by children from the David Ortiz Children’s Foundation, who watched as he opened the maze by taking a baseball bat to a cornstalk.
“You don’t get to see things like this everyday,” said Ortiz.
Boston-based sports lifestyle brand “47” came up with the idea as a way to honor Ortiz during his final season with the Red Sox. The maze features an image of Ortiz along with a message that reads, “Thanks Big Papi.” Addressing the crowd, Ortiz also thanked his fans.
“I thank you guys for pushing me everyday to try to do something on that field. And not only on the field, off the field too,” said Ortiz. “I try to do things so we can set an example for the young kids and new generation of players coming up.”
The maze opens to the public this weekend.
