EDGARTOWN, MASS. (WHDH) - When the Edgartown Fire Department found out local World War II veteran, Ted Morgan, was celebrating his 95th birthday Monday—they decided to do something special.

“We were just finishing up practice and we heard he was finishing up dinner downtown and we just through we would surprise him and honor him as he drove by,” said Kate Conde Foster, and Edgartown firefighter.

Foster and 25 other firefighters changed into full gear and pulled out all of the trucks—lights flashing— salute Morgan.

Morgan is an honorary member of the town’s fireman’s association.

“Mr. Morgan is known in our town because he’s a living legend,” said Foster.

Morgan, however, ended up surprising firefighters as well.

“They pulled over right out front and he actually got out of the car and starting shaking everybody’s hand,” said Foster.

“He was just saying ‘Thank you and thanks for the birthday wishes’ and then ‘Thank you for your work in the community and all that you do,’” said Foster.

Foster posted video of the heartwarming moment on the Fireman’s Association Facebook page Monday night.

It already has more than 11,000 views—something that took the entire fire department by surprise.

Morgan was also grand marshal of the town’s Fourth of July parade, much like he is every year.

Morgan is a big part of the community on Martha’s Vineyard.

We join everyone in wishing Ted Morgan a happy 95th birthday.
