PROVINCETOWN, MASS. (WHDH) - Rescue crews helped a whale break free off the coast of Provincetown Saturday.

A marine entanglement team responded to calls by beachgoers who saw the whale thrashing on the surface of the water.

Officials said the whale was found with three wraps of line around the base of its tail, which were most likely torn from larger fishing gear.

Rescuers were able to cut through the line.

This is the third whale rescue in recent weeks.
