LOUISVILLE, KY. (WHDH) - Fans around the world continue to mourn the death and celebrate the life of Muhammad Ali.

The boxing legend died last week in Arizona after a long illness.

The body of Muhammad Ali was flown back to his hometown of Louisville Sunday.

At the Muhammad Ali Center, fans created a makeshift memorial with flowers and boxing gloves, while admirers from the around the world wrote words of condolence.

Former Kentucky Governor John Y. Brown was a personal friend of the former champ.

“The world’s stopped now, and showing their love and respect for Ali,” Brown said.

In Atlanta, boxing gloves were hung at the Olympic caldron the former champ lit in 1996.

At Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King once served as pastor, Ali was remembered as a fighter who fought for his principles.

Muhammad Ali’s public funeral will be Friday in Louisville. Former president Bill Clinton is expected to be one of the eulogists.
