EVERETT, MASS. (WHDH) - A father was stabbed and killed while protecting his son, according to Everett Police.
Authorities said the homicide happened in the area Cherry Street before 10:30 p.m., near the Walter Morris Playground behind the George Keverian School.
The victim was 45-year-old father of three Mark Luiso of Everett.
“He died protecting his son. That’s what he does,” said family friend Liz Stoddard. “He does nothing but take care of his family, and unfortunately, it took his life this time, taking care of his family.”
Investigators said a bloody knife was found on the hood of a car Tuesday morning, prompting them to search the Cherry Street scene for the second time.
“Two suspects were trying to stab his son,” said a witness. “He got involved and tried to defend him and was stabbed.”
The victim’s friends are speaking out about the loss.
“He was a wonderful father and a wonderful husband,” said family friend Lisa Hogan. “He would give you the shirt off his back. He had nothing he would give it to you. He was amazing.”
Luiso’s wife has requested privacy at this time, but the couple’s friends said Luiso’s actions were nothing short of heroic.
“None of us are good,” said Stoddard. “It is going to take a very long time for us, for them, to ever think that they’re gonna be good again.”
Everett Police continue to search for Luiso’s murderer and are asking anyone who may have knowledge of the stabbing or surveillance video to come forward with whatever information they might have.
