Fire raged Thursday night at a condominium complex in Taunton.

Heavy flames could be seen pouring from the Somerset Gardens complex, located at 450 Somerset Avenue, and the fire was so extensive that the second floor collapsed under several firefighters.

Those firefighters were able to exit the building safely.

Taunton Police said they had no reports of injuries, and the Red Cross assisted those who were displaced.

The initial call was for a deck fire but the flames quickly spread.

The fire appeared to cause heavy damage and firefighters were on scene late into the night.

The fire chief says he believes the fire started on the outside of the building, but people who live in the home think it started in the attic.

"While the investigation team is working on determining exactly where and how the fire started, there are no signs that the fire was intentionally set," said Taunton Fire Chief Timothy Bradshaw.

Fire crews were initially called to the scene of a small fire on the outside deck of one of the condominiums. But fire investigators quickly discovered a large amount of fire in a void space between the first and second homes of the home.

Firefighters say they don’t think anyone will be allowed back in to see if there’s anything to salvage.

The cause is under investigation.
