MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WHDH) — A Florida woman was arrested after deputies say she tried to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Deputies said Rachel Leahy, 34, of Bradenton, paid an undercover cop to have her ex-husband drowned, burner or even sold into sex slavery.
She told a judge in court that she lives on food stamps and is struggling to get by.
She also told the judge she wasn’t currently working.
According to deputies, despite that fact, she was willing to pay $5,000 to an undercover deputy to kill her ex-husband, David Leahy.
He has custody of their children, and she wanted them back.
The arrest report said wanted certainty that he would be killed, such as in a fire or by drowning.
According to the report, “She thought about David being kidnapped and taken into another country and made into a sex slave.”
The lead detective said in court that Rachel had her bags packed and her passport ready.
“She had plans to leave the country today out of Miami and not return until next Friday,” said the detective.
She was busted after making a payment this week.
Detectives said her ex-husband was shocked.
