BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said Monday he expects a fair and thorough investigation by federal authorities into an accusation against his adult son of improper conduct involving another passenger on a JetBlue flight last week.
“I love my son, but obviously these allegations are serious and they require an independent review, which is why he will cooperate with the U.S. attorney’s office,” Baker told reporters outside his Statehouse office in his first public comments on the complaint.
No charges have been filed against Andrew Baker, who goes by A.J. The younger Baker’s attorney has said his client looks forward to resolving the matter.
The Republican governor repeated several times that he expects the probe to be conducted independently by the office of Andrew Lelling, U.S attorney for Massachusetts.
“State authorities are not involved in this matter,” Baker said.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney said by policy she could not confirm or deny whether an investigation had begun.
JetBlue said its crew on the flight Wednesday night from Washington to Boston was notified of an “incident between customers” and that authorities met the plane when it landed at Logan International Airport. No other information was provided.
One of Baker’s three adult children, A.J. Baker graduated in 2016 from Union College in Schenectady, New York, and played wide receiver on the school’s football team. His father spoke at commencement exercises that year and received an honorary law degree.
