BOSTON (WHDH) - A Mattapan man convicted of killing a woman in Dorchester four years ago has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Christopher Jackson killed 25-year-old Keosha Gilmore back in 2012. The two were childhood friends and police said Jackson shot Gilmore because she did not share his romantic feelings. Police said Jackson shot Gilmore when she was sitting in a car with her boyfriend.

Relatives said after Gilmore made it clear that she was not interested, Jackson became more aggressive and started following her to and from work. He was convicted of second-degree murder last week.

In court Tuesday, members of Gilmore’s family read emotional victim impact statements.

“Keosha was very bright, friendly and full of life,” said Herman Weathersby, Gilmore’s stepfather. “She had her whole life ahead of her and she did not deserve to die in this horrible manner.” Gilmore’s mother Gloria Weathersby said she has not slept a full night since her daughter was killed, comparing the feeling to walking around with a missing limb.

Gilmore’s stepmother Michelle Ross addressed Jackson directly. “We’ll never forget her and Christopher, you’re going to have to live in this hell that you’ve created for yourself.”

Jackson did not react as he received his sentence but his mother wept. He will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
