LYNN, MASS. (WHDH) - Police said a man was shot and killed by officer in Lynn on Monday.
According to the Essex District Attorney, officers responded to an apartment complex on Lynn Shore Drive just after 9 a.m. to serve a search warrant in connection with a Sept. 26 armed robbery at the Porthole Pub. Police said the 57-year-old man who lived in an apartment on the fifth floor was connected to the robbery.
Officers knocked on the door to the man’s apartment. Police and a witness inside the apartment said the suspect told police they were not going to take him. The witness reported the suspect was pointing a gun at the door, at which point she ran to her bedroom.
Officers then made a forced entry into the apartment. As soon as they entered, officers said they saw the suspect pointing a gun at the door. Police said the suspect ran into the hallway, still pointing a gun at officers. Three officers then fired at the suspect. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported. The man’s name has not been released.
Lynn Police said the three officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave.
