HAVERHILL, Mass. (WHDH ) – Police are increasing patrols at a Haverhill park after two people were shot near a Little League complex on Saturday.

Two men were shot at Swasey Field, sending people at a Little League game nearby ducking for cover. Players said their coaches told them to clear the field and some of them hid behind portable toilets.

“I reached down to grab the ball and I heard gunfire and didn’t what to do, I was kind of in shock,” said Tyler Diburro.

The game was cut short and has been rescheduled for this week.

The Essex County District Attorney said the two victims are expected to recover but it is not known what led up to the gunfire. Security in the area has been increased while police search for a suspect.

Haverhill Senior Baseball President Larry O’Brien said the league is looking at other places for games to be played for the rest of the season.
