LOWELL, MASS. (WHDH) - A teacher’s aide in Lowell appeared in court Wednesday, accused of throwing a Rubik’s cube at a student.
Now, there is a new twist in the case.
Matthew Fraser appeared in court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Fraser was a teacher’s aide and basketball coach at Lowell’s Sullivan Middle School last January when he got into a hallway argument with a 14-year-old star player.
After they were pulled apart, Fraser allegedly threw a Rubik’s cube he had in his hand at the ground.
The cube bounced up and grazed a teacher, but the prosecutor insisted Fraser was aiming at the student.
Fraser’s lawyer asked the judge to toss the case, saying there was no evidence he aimed at the student.
The judge threw out the case, saying he did not see any evidence that Fraser intentionally threw the toy at the student.
Fraser said he is relieved and hoping to get his job back.
“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous over me just getting frustrated over a student yelling at me and turning the other way and throwing a Rubik’s cube at the ground,” he said.
