ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) — Police say a Rockland, Maine, woman whose 3-year-old son wandered away from home and ended up in a drainage ditch has pleaded guilty.

WMTW-TV reports that Mandy Dennison received a deferred disposition last week, meaning some charges will be removed from her court record if she stays out of trouble.

Police said her son was found in a ditch in April.

Police found Dennison in an apartment with the door open and the TV showing “Scooby Doo,” which the youngster said he’d been watching before he wandered outside.

A Knox County prosecutor said Dennison can avoid jail time if she continues counseling and following Department of Health and Human Services rules for the next year. Then the child endangerment charge will be dropped, and she’ll be fined for drug possession.
