Investigators say the man who allegedly hit and killed a jogger in June had consumed several drinks before the crash.

Jeffery Bickoff, 44, told investigators he had a cup of soup and a rum and coke before getting behind the wheel but a receipt shows he actually paid for three of the drinks.

Haley Cremer, a 20-year-old student at Simmons College, was out for a jog in her hometown of Sharon when she was hit and killed.

Cremer’s family was visibly emotional in court where Bickoff pleaded not guilty.

“It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy that occurred that could have been avoided,” defense attorney Richard Comenzo said.

Bickoff wasn’t charged with OUI but officers said he could face more charges. He is due back in court in August.
