TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two young girls and will be sentenced to serve 12 years in prison.

Jose Martinez acknowledged in court Tuesday the state has enough evidence to convict him at trial, pleading guilty under the Alford doctrine to first-degree and second-degree sexual assault.

The Republican-American reports that prosecutors say the 47-year-old Martinez sexually assaulted one girl for years, beginning when she was 11 years old, and also assaulted an 8-year-old girl in 2014.

The Torrington man will be sentenced in March, and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He has been in custody since his arrest in April 2017.
