A police officer was injured on the job in Milford on Monday.

According to the Deputy Chief, the officer was hit by a piece of construction equipment, then fell and hit his head on the pavement on Water Street, where a gas main was being installed.

The officer was knocked unconscious and was rushed to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

Nathan Hathaway, 36, was rushed to the hospital with a severe head injury. He is now in stable condition.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, along with the police department, are investigating to determine if any charges will be filed.

The police chief said his main concern is the health of his officer.
