NAHANT, MASS. (WHDH) - A Nahant girl was met with love and support from her town as she headed to Boston for her final cancer treatment Wednesday.

Mila Martineau, 2, has been undergoing treatment for a rare form of muscular cancer. Her family was taking her to Dana Farber for her final round of chemotherapy when they were greeted with a big surprise. The streets were lined with neighbors holding signs, a fire ladder clearing the route and a police escort.

“I was sobbing trying to drive my car,” said Jessica Martineau, Mila’s mother. “I just appreciate where I live and the support.”

Neighbors organized the show of support because they wanted the Martineaus to know they are not alone.

“I know it hasn’t been easy for them but we wanted to show them we’ve been thinking of them over these months and praying and glad they made it through,” said Stephanie Doucette.

Mila has been through six months of chemotherapy and her family said the big send-off she got for her final round of treatment was “amazing.”
