BOSTON (WHDH) - The two officers shot in East Boston are being recognized as dedicated members of the Boston Police Department as they recover in the hospital.
Officer Richard Cintolo and Officer Matther Morris were both wounded in a shooting Wednesday night in East Boston. Both are now in critical, but stable, condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Cintolo has been a member of the BPD for 27 years and comes from a big police family. Commissioner William Evans said Cintolo’s brother and father are both police officers and Evans himself was on the force with Cintolo’s father.
Morris is a 12-year veteran of the BPD. In 2006, he was honored with the Hanna Award for bravery, after he blocked the escape of a masked man firing off shots on Blue Hill Avenue. When Morris was shot Wednesday, one of the bullets severed a main artery in his leg. Evans said a fellow officer quickly applied a tourniquet, which doctors said probably saved his life.
Morris was able to speak briefly with Evans, who said Morris thanked his fellow officer for saving him.
