A taxi cab went up in flames Wednesday afternoon on School Street in Quincy.

Passengers barely escaped the flames.

Seconds after witness John McDonald grabbed his cellphone, the yellow cab’s window’s began to explode.

McDonald said a male cab driver and an elderly woman he was driving home from physical therapy made it out of the car in time, even though she was using two canes.

As McDonald watched the unsettling scene from his balcony, he was concerned they weren’t far enough away.

The drama played out behind an apartment building catering to senior citizens.

A tow crew got the destroyed taxi back to Yellow Cab. The company declined to comment on the incident.
