FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) - As the Patriots head off to Arizona in the team buses, fan had to be encouraged by what they saw in the NFL season opening game in Denver.

The Broncos were led the victory by a new quarterback who had never thrown a pass in a real game.

The Patriots’ new QB, Jimmy Garoppolo, seems like a seasoned veteran compared to that.

“He’s gonna step up,” said one fan.  “I think he’s going to be a big surprise to a lot of people,” he continued.

Garoppoplo said two seasons backing up Tom Brady, practicing and occasionally playing have prepared him for this moment.

One of his top targets, Rob Gronkowski, said Garoppolo looks ready to go.

“He’s looking solid…” said Gronkowski, “I love it, I mean you definitely see the improvement all the way from his rookie year last year to this year, so, I feel like he’s ready to go” he added.

Before Brady headed off to serve his suspension, Tom Brady declared Garoppolo ready to step up and lead Tom’s team.

“I want all the players on our team to do great, certainly Jimmy, I know him very well,” said Brady. “He’s really done a great job preparing himself. I’m excited to see how he makes the most of his opportunity,” continued Brady.
