BOSTON (WHDH) - Police are investigating after a man was struck and seriously injured by a car in South Boston Friday morning.

The man was struck in the area of 96 Preble Street around 10:24 a.m., according to Boston police.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A witness who says he heard screams rushed to the scene and found the victim bleeding profusely.

“I heard a bang. I heard a woman scream,” the witness to told 7News. “I ran down, checked on him, checked his pulse to make sure he was breathing and he was leaking. He was leaking from the head.”

The driver who hit the man remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Video from the scene showed a black Nissan with a shattered windshield and a shoe wedged under a rear tire.

The area has since been sealed off with crime tape.

An investigation is ongoing.
