KILLINGLY, Conn. (AP) — A Maine man visiting his sister in Connecticut is facing numerous charges after police say he accidentally shot himself in the thigh while showing off his gun.
Mountain Robicheau, 41, of Wesley, Maine is free on $50,000 bond, according to court records. He appeared in court Tuesday where he faced numerous charges including three felony counts of carrying a pistol without a permit. No defense attorney was listed in court records.
Police responded to the hospital on Monday for a report of a person with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, according to The Bulletin of Norwich.
Robicheau told police he was at his sister’s Killingly home and showing her the handgun when his finger slipped while he was trying to lower the weapon’s hammer.
Robicheau told police his Maine permit for the weapon had expired. He also had two other guns, a sword and three high-capacity pistol magazines, police said.
He’s due back in court March 3.
