WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police have released the name of a man who was struck and killed by a car while crossing a major road in Warwick on Wednesday evening.

Gustavo Lopez Giron, 53, of Providence, was struck while trying to cross a dimly lit stretch of Bald Hill Road around 5 p.m., according to Warwick police.

He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death will be determined by Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office.

No one has been charged in the case. The driver and several witnesses stopped after the crash and are cooperating, police said. The department said speed, impairment and distracted driving do not appear to be factors.

Police are asking anyone with any more information about the crash, including other witnesses, to contact the department’s traffic division.
